Northwest Exteriors is a premier home improvement company in the Napa region. They can install new windows and doors in existing homes as well as in new home construction.
For existing homes, there are several questions that most homeowners have about the window replacement process. While every home is different, there are general answers that address the basics of these common questions.
What is the process?
The first step in the process of window replacement is to remove the old window. This is done with care to prevent any damage to the interior or the exterior of the home. Then, the window frame is inspected, and any damaged boards are replaced.
After this, the new window is placed into the frame and secured into position. During this process, the window is continually checked to ensure it is level and square. At the same time, the material that is used to prevent moisture from getting between the window and the wall is put in place.
Finally, the gap between the window frame and the casing is sealed and protected, and then the trim is replaced.
How long does it take?
The time it takes for window replacement depends on the size of the window and if the window is being changed in any way from the original. Larger windows are more challenging to install, but professionals have the tools and supplies to complete the installation. Most windows can be replaced in a few hours, with large bay or bow windows or large picture windows taking longer.
Can the size and shape be changed?
In almost all Napa homes and rooms, the replacement window can be larger or smaller than the current window. It is also possible to use a window with a different shape, but there will be additional time and work involved in the process.
